‘I Report 2013’ Findings

Total internet penetration at 58.1%

The annual findings of I Report 2013, the first subscription tool for measuring and analyzing the interactive behavior of Cypriots on the Internet, were announced today by Evresis Research and Interactive Marketing services company, ImarComms.

Specifically, the I Report recorded the penetration of the Internet in Cyprus reaching 58.1% in 2012, an increase of 4.8% from the previous period. That is nearly 6 in 10 aged 13 and older are internet users, primarily interested in general news with 80.1% and secondarily visiting social networks with 58.1%.

As the third most frequent reason to visit the internet the I Report recorded Online Purchases climbing to 33.3% with an increase of 1% from the previous year. Noteworthy is the fact that 23.8% of those who buy online spend more than €1,500 per year and almost one in ten exceeds €2,000. As the first category of online shopping remains the category of Clothing and Footwear by 41.4%, increasing by 1.5%, and as the second Travel / Hotels / Tickets with 26.6% with an increase of 3.5%. The third category Items for Home category climbed to 20.7% while mobile phones and cosmetics showed a significant increase.

Also there was a significant increase in the penetration of Social Media in older age strata, with ages over 35 to be very close to 50%. Nearly two out of three have their own profile on social networks with 95.8% of them on Facebook and 25.5% on Twitter.

Increase was also recorded to the internet usage via mobile phones reaching 34% with Samsung to exceed the I Phone as the dominant device and with social networking to have the highest growth as the main reason for using the internet via a mobile phone.

Very important was the use of the internet via Tablet which doubled, reaching 22.7% of those visiting the web aged 13 and over, with the I Pad to hold the top spot with a great difference from the respective devices.
